Central-East Java: The Magnificent Telaga Warna

Once upon a time, there was one royal family - king, queen and beautiful princess of West Java. Both the king and queen loved their daughter dearly that they showered her with all their love and many jewellery.

The princess, although beautiful and having all the luxury to herself still could not feel happy. She wanted everyone else to see what she had. She wanted to wear all her jewellery she had to public and be recognized beautiful wearing them.

Convinced that her idea would get approval from the king, she ran to him to tell only to get a surprise look and stern words of disapproval. Beauty is not in the face, beauty is a light in the heart, the king told her princess.

Disheartening, the princess ran to get her jewellery box and returned to her father. She threw those jewellery box to her father.

Furious with her princess action, the king called her princess ungrateful!

Just right after he finished his words, suddenly the palace floor cracked and water erupted through the cracks. The palace was quickly flooded and sunk together with the princess and her jewelleries. The palace vanished and replaced with a lake.

Now, the lake is call Telaga Warna - having multiple colours water of green, yellow and turquoise hues from sulphur deposits around its shores.

This lake is situated about 2km from Kawah Sikidang and was my last place to visit in Dieng before headed back to Jogja. The greenish lake was very calm and quiet - sometimes the only sound you could hear is the bird chirping from the surrounding thick forest. It creates a mysterious atmosphere to this place. With the extraordinary nature beauty of this place, the folklore could be true there was a palace stood there before.

If you want more magnificent view, follow a trail uphill for few hundred meters to the top of the hill. You'll be spellbound to see the outspread of the Telaga Warna and its adjacent lake, Telaga Pengilon. From top, the different colours could be visibly seen as the different colours comes from different sediments in the lake, the depth of the lake at different spot and from reflection of sun rays.

Then, it was time for me to leave and made way to another world's UNESCO Heritage Site. But before that, I stopped over at lookout point near Wonosobo for a quick picture taking moment.

@biqque
tasik ni mmg cantik tapi agak rase seram jugak sbb tempat ni agak sunyi. Risau gak kalau ade naga tp lg risau kalau ade sang puteri hehe...

@Yantie
dekat Dieng ni semua tempat mmg cantik2 sbb kat area tanah tinggi & kawasan gunung berapi.

@bdk2
tgk gambar pon misteri, i yg pi visit situ lg la terasa kemisteriaannya. Nak stay lama pon mcm risau, terus tak pegi gua2 yg ade kat sekitar tu.

@lily
cantik i teringat mcm view kat sabah. area ni mmg agak kampung2 sikit, so nature is still nicely preserved la. pegi jangan tak pegi, pastu panjat sikit atas bukit tu u boleh nampak 2 lakes sekaligus.

@Zoey
They are gorgeous isn't it? It was almost afternoon so that's why the big clouds has started coming.

@chibi
kitorang sewa kereta tu skali ngan driver cz tempat ni about 4-5 hours drive gak from Jogja lgpon since that day kitorang a bit rushing jugak so might as well use driver yg dah biasa jalan tu utk elak buang masa sesat etc. Tp Dieng is totally worth to go despite the long journey.

@AieSha
Sbb kat Msia takde tempat2 yg berunsurkan gunung berapi, so bila sampai Indonesia don't miss this place. Tenang tapi mmg terasa misteri jugak kat tasik ni :)
